Enneagram for Writers: Unpacking the Power of Personality for Yourself and Your Characters

Have you ever wondered how your personality influences your writing life? Does your base temperament and disposition affect your habits and goals, even the act of writing itself? And what about the characters in your written work? Would a deep-hearted understanding of their needs and motivations help create fully-realized identities that enrich your stories?

One of the most powerful and popular systems for modeling personality is the Enneagram, which describes human character traits within the structure of nine interconnected types. The Enneagram offers a practice of self awareness and personal growth that seeks to reveal patterns and blind spots. A better understanding of our base personality and the way we react and respond to others (and how others respond to us!) can result in more flexibility, tolerance, and compassion.

This retreat will delve into the nine personality types as described by the Enneagram, but we’ll lean toward specific meaning for writers and other Creatives. We’ll talk about becoming aware of actions and reactions, and how that cognizance can temper the negatives, support the positives, and result in a more concentrated approach to your writing. And then we’ll go a step further and consider ways to use the Enneagram for character development, fleshing out the personalities of the people in your stories by creating realistic behaviors and desires. Understanding personality can provide a new perspective for your writing and for you as a writer. Join us!

This weekend retreat is facilitated by Sue Mohr, a Master Certified Life, Business, and Enneagram Coach/Consultant and creator of The Inner Vizion Coaching (theinnervizion.com).
