We offer beautiful, private bedroom/bathroom suites. Writers have access to many lovely and functional common areas including a large kitchen, dining / gathering room, writing porches, reading room, library, several outdoor spaces, decks, and gardens. We also have a swimming pool and a tennis court. The 65 acres surrounding our buildings provide ample outdoor space to explore and offer a respite after intense hours of writing.
Weeklong Residencies:
Weekly residencies are available for 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks with the highly subsidized fee of $425.00 per week for rooms in the Farmhouse or Cabin. Writers can request to stay in the Ogilvie Granary for $475.00 per week. A non-refundable $100 (per requested week) deposit is required to hold your spot.
Weekly Residencies begin on Mondays with a check-in no earlier than 3:00 p.m. and end on Sundays with a check-out no later than 11:00 a.m.
Mini-Residencies:
While we prefer writers to stay at least 1 week, we understand that it might not be possible for some writers to coordinate a full week away. Therefore, with flexibility in mind, RWC offers stays of 1, 2, or 3 nights at the regular nightly rate of $100.00. Please keep in mind full-week residencies are given preference.
Check-in for Mini-residencies is 3:00 p.m. on the beginning day. Check-out is no later than 11:00 a.m. on the ending day.
More information:
Residents are expected to provide their own food and prepare their own meals and are given ample pantry and refrigerator space for groceries. We provide all bedding, towels, and paper products (T.P., Kleenex, paper towels). Our kitchen is fully stocked with dishes and cookware.
Writers must be self-driven, independent and able to work in a quiet manner respecting other residents. In the application process, writers will be asked to briefly articulate their project, share why they think they would benefit from time at Rockvale Writers’ Colony, and provide 5 pages of sample writing. We will work with accepted writers to find a convenient time for their residency.
Application Periods:
Presently, applications are accepted year-round. Please allow up to 30 days for a response, but we often get back to writers much sooner than that. Flexibility with dates is greatly appreciated. Please be sure to check our availability calendar when requesting dates.
Other Fees:
- Application fee – $30.00.
- Cleaning fee – $30.00.
- Applicable sales tax of 9.75% and occupancy tax of 4% also apply.
